Thank you for your interest in fostering for the National Pug Protection Trust. It should be noted that taking on a rescue dog is a huge commitment and many pugs will require special care and attention. We may have limited information about the pug being surrendered to us, and a foster carer will need to be able to cope with unexpected medical or behavioural issues. Fostering is neither glamourous or easy - Please consider this carefully before applying.
How a fostering application works:
● Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by one of the Rescue Managers.
o If your application is successful at this stage, your contact details will be shared with a member of the Home Check team who will be in touch to arrange a home check.
o If your application is not successful at this stage, you will be contacted by the Rescue Manager with an explanation of why.
● Our home checks are conducted virtually via Whatsapp/Facetime and usually last for one hour. During the home check, we will ask you to show us around your property so that we can see the environment in which the dog would live. We will also ask you a series of questions to understand more about your life and suitability to foster. You will also have plenty of opportunities to ask us questions about the process and the charity.
● Once you have had your home check completed, the Rescue Manager will be in touch with the outcome.
o If your home check is successful, we will add you to our list of approved foster carers and will be in touch when a dog needs rehoming.
o If your home check is not successful at this stage, you will be contacted by the Rescue Manager with an explanation of why.
Fostering plays a crucial role for pugs coming onto our care. The NPPT does not use kennels, all pugs go straight into a foster home.
As a foster carer your responsibilities will include assessing, rehabilitating, and preparing a pug/s for their perfect forever home.
